Gen Z: A New Era of Digital Marketing in 2023

Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, is the first truly digital native generation.

I was born in 1999. Having grown up with technology, my mom often referred to my sister (a 2001 baby) and I as “digital natives," implying that we have a natural aptitude for technology and the digital world. With our unique perspective and understanding of digital media and technology, I agree that Gen Z can offer valuable insights into the future of digital marketing.

Here are four things I think all generations could learn from Gen Z's approach to the internet!

1. The importance of authenticity and transparency

Gen Z values authenticity and transparency above all else, and they are quick to call out brands that are not being genuine. To connect with this generation, brands must focus on building trust and establishing a human connection. This can be achieved through genuine and authentic engagement, responding to customer complaints, and avoiding gimmicks or manipulation. Brands must understand that this generation is highly attuned to corporate social responsibility and are more likely to support a brand that aligns with their values.

2. The rise of social media influencers

Gen Z is highly influenced by social media influencers, and this trend is expected to continue in 2023. Brands should focus on developing strategic partnerships with influencers who share the same values and goals. Influencer marketing allows brands to reach a new audience, build credibility and boost their online presence.

3. The preference for short-form video content

Gen Z has a short attention span and prefers short-form video content over traditional forms of advertising. They are more likely to engage with content that is entertaining, educational and visually appealing. Brands must understand this and focus on creating high-quality video content that resonates with this generation. This includes investing in animation, live streaming, and augmented reality technology.

4. The need for personalization and customization

Gen Z values personalization and customization, and they expect brands to offer a tailored experience. Brands must focus on using data and artificial intelligence to create a customized customer experience. This can be achieved by using customer data to personalize promotions, advertisements, and product recommendations.

In conclusion

Generation Z has a lot to teach us about digital marketing in 2023. Brands must understand that this generation is highly informed, savvy, and values authenticity and transparency. Brands must focus on creating genuine connections, partnering with social media influencers, creating high-quality video content, and using data to personalize the customer experience. By understanding the unique needs and values of this generation, you can stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving world of digital marketing.
